Technology and its bleak future...

In a time where the world's population is dramatically gaining weight, particularly in the Western world, fatty foods were the main suspect.  However according to a study by Harvard economists, they say technology is the main culprit as our lives become increasingly more reliant on high-tech devices for the sake of convenience.  Mainly it has driven people of modern society to become increasingly lazy, especially when it comes to today's youth.

Most of today's school students rely heavily on Google and Wikipedia as the source hub to all their assessment questions.  This ability to access information with such ease can be damaging to today's youth in the long term, removing the opportunity for them to build on their creative and critical thinking skills which are necessary to succeed in the business world.  In short, technological convenience in a way is dumbing down our future generation.

To sum it all up, our future is getting fatter, lazier and dumber, and at this rate does not look like changing at any moment.

  1. This is a brillant article Kay. As a secondary school teacher myself, I can definitely relate to some of the issues discussed. Most of my students' essay bibliographies consist of mainly Wikipedia pages and almost no other outside sources, and just like you I also fear for the education and future of our youths. It's great to finally find someone who is aware of this problem.

  2. Hi Kay, although you make a point in your article, I'm just here to let you know that not all people in our current generation are lazy and ignorant. I'm currently a 9th grader who 'still' prefers to open up a nice old book, as mentioned in one of your previous articles 'The doomsday of print' which I must say again another great valid point that you've highlighted. Unlike my classmates, I don't bother to use Wikipedia as the sole resource of my research as we've witnessed countless times that its information is subject to simple and complete alteration, making it fairly uncreditable. But keep up the good work and hopefully you'll pick larger issues that plague our society today.

    Stephanie XOXOXOX ;)
